Residents of Sokoto metropolis are feeling the impact of the recent ban of transportation of firewood across the state.
The state government has recently banned transportation of cattle and firewood as well as suspended cattle markets across the state.
The ban was part of the measures taken to curtail banditry in the state.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that the decision was bitting hard on residents of the state with some of them resorting to charcoals and gas for their cooking.
Hajiya Zainab told our reporter that the firewood which she was buying at the rate of N100 before the ban is currently sold between N200 and N250.
“Yesterday, I could not find any to buy because it’s very scarced.
“My husband has to buy gas for me eventhough the price is outrageous,” she said
However, majority of the people of the state are commending the state government for these measures.
Malam Yusuf Magaji said these measures were long overdue in view of the prevailing insecurity in the state.
A member of the task force on the enforcement of the Executive Order and Commissioner of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Bashir Gidado said the measures have started making impact in the state.
He said the bandits could not move around because they were denied access to fuel.
