A fire outbreak has been reported at The Alaba International Market in the Ojo area of Lagos state. Has been gutted by fire.
Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Adeseye Margaret, said the incident took place Friday afternoon, affecting mainly the shanties used as shops in the popular market.
She said an angry mob prevented the firefighters from gaining access to the affected areas to put out the inferno.
Margaret, however, said security operatives were on top of the situation., adding that the agency was collaborating with the security operatives to address the situation.
“Report reaching Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service indicates shops at the popular Alaba International Market, Ojo, Lagos are on fire,” the statement reads.
“However, Fire Crew from Ojo, Sari-Iganmu and Ajegunle are being turned back by angry mobs from performing their statutory duty but are presently on standby.
“The agency is consequently collaborating with security agents to address it.”
