The Federal Government will generate over N22 billion within the next four years due to the introduction of e-ticketing solutions on the Lagos-Ibadan and Warri-Itakpe standard train service, acting Director-General, Infrastructure Construction Regulatory Commission (ICRC), Mike Ohiani, has said.
He said Lagos-Ibadan standard train service will produce over 12.4 billion, while over N9.6 billion will be generated from the Warri-Itakpe standard train service.
Ohiani said this at the official Outline Business Case (OBC) presentation on the Lagos-Ibadan Standard Train Service and the Warri-Itakpe Standard Train Service to Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) in Lagos on Tuesday.
He said the overall scope of the project is for the designing, financing, building, operation, managing the secured e-ticketing solution hardware and software for passenger station on Lagos-Ibadan standard train service and the Warri-Itakpe.
Ohiani said the e-ticket solution would make the travelling experience for passengers very easy and also provide security services and promote efficiency in rail transportation.
Managing Director, Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Fidet Okhiria, said since the introduction of e-ticketing, revenue generation has gone up drastically.
He said the e-ticketing had blocked leakages and reduced to the barest minimum ticket racketeering.
Okhiria said the corporation would continue to review the system as it understands that it could not achieve perfection in a day.
“We are reviewing it on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to try to improve on what we are doing,” he said.
