The Federal Government is targeting over 160,000 poor rural women to disburse cash grants in 2021, to help cushion the effects of Covid-19.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar-Faruk, during the disbursement of the cash to 6,800 women in Katsina on Wednesday.
The FG had earlier in January, 2021 commenced disbursement of 20,000 to rural women in Kano, where about 8,000 across the 44 local Government Councils in the state were being targeted.
It also disbursed the special grant to rural women in Gombe in November 2020.
“We are targeting over 160,000 poor and vulnerable rural women in Nigeria for the N20,000 grant, to uplift their economic status. Our rural women with disability will also be included.
“It is my hope that the beneficiaries will use this opportunity to increase their income, enhance their food security and contribute toward improving their families. The N20,000, will go a long way in supporting any serious woman to start a business. What is most important is how judiciously you utilise the money,” the minister said at the commencement of disbursement in Katsina.
She added that Katsina State has received over N9.5 billion in the Conditional Cash Transfer programme under the Buhari administration.
