The Federal Government will assist the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria to develop sports in the institution, Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, has said on Thursday.
Dare, who was speaking when he received the institution’s management team led by its Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kabir Bala, in his office in Abuja.
He said the visit to the ministry by the VC and his management team is “historic,” adding that ABU sports facilities should be upgraded given the huge population of students on the campus.
Dare, who is an alumnus of the university, said ABU could compete favourably with its counterparts in Europe and America, adding that the institution is a great with a large population of influential alumni spread all over the country and beyond.
Prof. Bala had earlier told the minister that the institution is connecting with its alumni towards enhancing its excellence in teaching and research.
He said ABU Football Workers’ Club had registered to participate in the country’s football league.
