The Nigeria Immigration Service has suspended the printing of international passports in Kano, Yola, Gombe, Jalingo. Bauchi, Yenegoa, Port Harcourt, Uyo, and Calabar.

The suspension order takes effect from August 10, 2026, according to the a circular dated August 3, 2026, and signed by ACG T.O. Olaiya, and sent to all the Immigration controllers affected.

The circuit said starting from August 10 the passport centres in the affected nine states have been migrated to the Central Personalization Centre, and therefore they can’t print passports again.

This means that passports will no longer be printed in Kano’s Farm Centre and Dawakin Kudu and the other affected northern centres. Instead, applications will have to be sent to Abuja, where the passports will be printed and then transported back by road.

In another statement posted on X on Wednesday, the NIS described the migration as a strategic administrative enhancement aimed at improving passport production and security, rather than a disruption of services.

It stated that passport applicants could continue to visit their designated passport offices for biometric enrolment without any interruption.

“Applicants can still visit their local centers to complete biometric data capture seamlessly. This centralized production framework is designed to align with global security standards, streamline processing timelines, and significantly safeguard the integrity of the Nigerian passport,” the Service stated.

The NIS further assured Nigerians that passport capturing centres remain fully operational and that the production and distribution of passport booklets are continuing within the standard timeframe.

“Citizens can rest assured that capturing centers remain fully operational, with physical booklets processed efficiently and returned to local commands within standard delivery windows,” the statement added.
