The Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, says the Federal Government has received £4.2 million looted by former Delta State governor, James Ibori, from the United Kingdom.
The minister said this in a statement by his media aide, Dr Umar Gwandu, on Tuesday.
Malami said the naira the equivalent of the amount has been credited to the designated account of the federal government.
Malami had in March signed Memorandum of Understanding for the repatriation of the money.
The minister said the return of the money was a demonstration of the recognition of reputation Nigeria earns through records of management of recovered stolen funds in the execution of public-oriented projects.
Malami had announced the use of the funds for the completion of some ongoing federal government projects, a development that was contested by Delta state governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who said money belongs to the state and not the federal government.
