Information and Culture Minister, Lai Mohammed, says the microblogging site, Twitter, has reached out to the Federal Government for dialogue.
The minister had announced the suspension of the social media platform after Twitter deleted President Muhammadu Buhari’s tweet on civil war.
The suspension drew condemnations from within and outside the country, with the US and UK describing it as an infringement on the human rights of Nigerians, and called for immediate reversal.
Mohammed told journalists after the Federal Executive Council (FEC), on Wednesday that one of the conditions for reversal of Twitter’s suspension was for the microblogging site to register in Nigeria as a business concern.
Apart from Twitter, he said other social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram must be registered in the country.
Mohammed said contrary to popular claims, freedom of speech has not been stifled by the suspension of Twitter as Nigerians can still use other platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
