Minister of power, Adebayo Adelabu, has said that efforts are ongoing to expand transmission infrastructure and improve commercialisation in the sector.

The minister stated this while addressing the maiden edition of the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) stakeholders’ engagement.

According to him, the government is focused on building a reliable and secure power system capable of meeting national demand, promoting a competitive electricity market that encourages investment, and improving efficiency.

Adelabu said efforts are ongoing to strengthen regulatory alignment between the central and subnational governments, expand transmission infrastructure, improve sector commercialisation.

He further stated that the government is also taking steps to ensure a “reliable and sustainable supply, and support initiatives that enable states market development in line with the provisions of the law.”

The minister further assured that the ministry will continue to work closely with development partners to support investments that enhance system reliability, market liquidity, and the integration of renewable energy.

He called on all stakeholders in the power sector to support NISO by following established procedures, sharing timely information, and actively participating in engagements.

“This engagement provides us an opportunity to reinforce collaboration across the value chain,” he said.

“Our system operators, generation companies, transmission service providers, distribution licensees, regulators, market participants, state governments, and consumers all have important roles to play. No single institution can deliver a stable and efficient power sector in isolation.”

Adelabu emphasised that progress in the power sector relies on collective responsibility and strict adherence to established procedures.

He said ongoing communication among all stakeholders, along with recent developments in the sector, highlights the critical importance of strong coordination.

The minister added that such collaboration reflects the federal government’s steadfast commitment to deepening power sector reforms, attracting private investment, and unlocking the vast renewable energy potential across states and communities.
