The federal government has attributed the delay in the payment of February salary to a technical glitch.
In a statement issued by the office of the accountant-general of the federation (OAGF), the federal government said payment of February salaries began on Monday.
The OAGF said it commenced payment of February 2026 salaries to treasury-funded workers and will begin clearing the outstanding three months’ wage award arrears from March.
The organised labour in the federal public service issued a Friday deadline to the federal government, demanding the immediate release of funds to settle three months’ outstanding wage awards and other pending allowances owed to workers across ministries, departments and agencies.
The unions accused the government of withholding funds meant for workers, alleging that relevant agencies were prepared to process payments once the ministry of finance released the required funds.
The OAgF also said that it had received approval and concluded the process for the payment of one month wage award arrears out of the three months outstanding.
