The federal government has approved the payment of N75,000 per semester for every student studying education in public varsities across the country, Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, has said.
Adamu disclosed this in Abuja on the occasion of this year’s World Teacher’s Day celebration, on Tuesday.
Represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary Sonny Echono, the minister said students who are undergoing the National Certificate in Education (NCE) programme will also get N50,000.
Adamu said the initiative is part of President Muhammadu Buhari’s efforts to make teaching attractive to the best brains in the country.
He said his ministry would also collaborate with state governments to ensure those who studied education in public tertiary institutions get automatic employment upon graduation.
“Federal Government should find the modality through which respective states’ governments could provide automatic employment for NCE graduates at Basic Education level,” he said.
“Beneficiaries must attend public institutions only and sign a bond to serve their state for five (5) years on graduation,” he added.
