The Federal Government has approved N189 million for a two-kilometre road network in the University of Jos (UNIJOS), the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has said.
He said this during the handover of the project site at the permanent site of the university.
In a statement by Deputy Registrar, Information of the university, Abdullahi Abdullahi, on Tuesday, the minister said the intervention was for the construction and rehabilitation of the road linking the Naraguta Hostel gate to the Abuja Hostel at the permanent site of the university.
Represented by the ministry’s Controller of Works in PlateauState, Usman Abubakar, Fashola said intervention is part of activities which the ministry undertakes that UNIJOS was yet to benefit from.
He said the two-kilometre road project comprises bush clearing, discaffication of existing failed sections, patching of potholes, overlaying of the road and construction of drainages and culverts, all to be completed within a space of three months.
Fashola said the ministry would not compromise standards, as all materials that will be used would be subjected to the relevant testing procedures to ensure that quality is maintained.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Gray Ejikime, said the federal government has contributed a lot to the growth and development , as well as transformed and added value to the face of the university.
He said the road, if completed, will reduce the difficulties encountered by staff, students and visitors to the university, urging the contractor to expedite action and ensure quality and timely delivery of the project.
