Despite early arrival of both materials and electoral personnel, voters were yet to show up at parts of Utako, Karu and Lugbe in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Saturday’s area council elections.
Election officials arrived Utako before the scheduled 8:30am voting commencement time at various polling units but no voters were found.
Officials were on ground before 8:30am at Polling Unit 012, arranging election materials in preparation for voting. But, accreditation and voting were yet to start at 8:33am as there were no voters at the unit at the time of filing this report.
At various polling units in the Utako area, Security personnel were visible to ensure order as preparations continued.
It is a similar story at LEA Primary School in Karu, under the Abuja Municipal Area Council, as voters were yet to turn up as of 8:48am.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials who were on ground as early as 7:30am were waiting due to absence of voters.
There were no voters at polling units 001, 018, 019, 020, 021, 023 and 027 within the school premises, to cast their ballots as of the time of observation. Electoral officers were seen seated and waiting for voters to arrive.
The police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) personnel deployed to ensure order were on ground at Karu polling units.
In Lugbe, Polling units 119 and 120, Daki Biyu Village II (44 Junction), officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at Lugbe were equally present, but there were no voters as of the time of filling this report as voting had not started at the polling units.
