A delegation from the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in the weekend visited the Gusau International Airport to assess construction level.
The Zamfara State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure in a statement by Jamilu Bello, its spokesperson said the FAAN delegation was led by Mukhtar Ali Dambatta.
The delegation was conducted round the site by the Works and Infrastructure Commissioner, Lawal Barau Bungudu.
“Mukhtar Ali Danbatta described the airport as the best developing airport project currently under construction in the North-Western region of Nigeria.
“He noted that the standard of work, planning, and commitment observed at the project site demonstrates the state government’s determination to deliver a modern and high-quality aviation facility that will serve the region,” the statement noted.
The visit came two days after Governor Dauda Lawal appointed Kabir Yahaya Gusau as the pioneer Managing Director for Gusau International Airport.
The state government explained that the appointment was part of the ongoing efforts of the administration to ensure effective coordination and operational readiness of the Airport project which will soon commence operations.
The airport construction began by then Zamfara State governor, Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi in 2009 but was abandoned. Abdulaziz Yari, who was governor from 2011-2019, abandoned the project.
Bello Matawalle, governor from 2019-2023, did some works on the site but later abandoned the construction before his exit.
