Operatives of the Kano State Hisbah Board have arrested a 24-year-old man, Shamsu Yakubu, for allegedly engaging in an obscene act involving a goat in an incident that has sparked public outrage.
Yakubu, a resident of Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area, was apprehended on Tuesday after a disturbing video surfaced on social media, particularly on TikTok, showing him seemingly licking the genitalia of a goat.
In the video, which quickly went viral, Yakubu is seen directing another individual to record him while he performs the inappropriate act on the animal. When questioned, he claimed he undertook the act in a bid to “go viral” and achieve fame on social media.
However, members of his community were appalled by the behavior and reportedly threatened to take matters into their own hands. A local community leader intervened and promptly alerted the Hisbah Board, which led to Yakubu’s arrest.
During preliminary interrogation in Kano, the suspect denied actually licking the goat’s genitalia. “I swear to Allah, I did not lick the goat. I only placed my mouth near the area,” Yakubu said, insisting it was his first time engaging in such behavior and pledging never to repeat
The Deputy Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Mujahideen Aminuddeen Abubakar, condemned the act, describing it as shameful and a violation of Islamic teachings and moral conduct.
The Hisbah official added that both the suspect and the goat would undergo medical screening. “We will take the goat to a veterinary clinic for examination to determine if it may have contracted any infection from the suspect. Similarly, Yakubu will also undergo thorough testing before we proceed with any prosecution,” he said.
