Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, says he is no longer interested in Nigerian politics, saying “it is evil”.
The 33-year-old took to X in reaction to a post by Dayo Israel, the national youth leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The APC youth leader highlighted three factors he said led to the party’s defeat in the governorship election.
Ademola Adeleke, Davido’s uncle and Accord candidate, was declared the winner on Sunday after securing the most votes.
He polled 511,067 votes to defeat Bola Oyebamiji of the APC, who finished with 444,815 votes. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) placed a distant third with 17,180 votes.
The APC youth leader claimed Davido used his personality as a music star in Nigeria to “bring artistes, influencers and young voices into the process”.
“Davido did not treat his role as symbolic. He was placed at the centre of youth mobilisation and used his influence, networks, music, digital reach and personal credibility to connect the campaign to a generation,” the post reads.
“He brought artistes, influencers and young voices into the process. Alongside emerging political and professional actors such as Pelumi Olajengbesi, he helped give the campaign a youthful, energetic and culturally resonant face.”
Reacting, Davido denied bringing artistes or influencers into the state to affect the election process.
The ‘Oriade’ hitmaker said he supported his family without support from industry colleagues.
The singer added that he doesn’t want to be part of the Nigerian political landscape until “God help us”.
“I brought no one! No one defended me! I backed my family on my own!! You guys are ruthless and disgusting! Eeewwww! I have done my job! Nigerian politics is evil, and I don’t want to be a part of it till God helps us!” he wrote.
This is not the first time Davido has expressed his contemplation about Nigerian politics.
Months after he announced his formal entry into politics in December 2025, declaring his intention to join Accord, he later reconsidered.
The songwriter said he worried that moving into governance could hurt his music career. He was eventually named the head of youth mobilisation for the Accord in his uncle’s re-election bid.
