An expatriate contractor involved in vandalising streetlights in the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council has been arrested
The AMMC Coordinator, Mr. Felix Obuah, revealed this on Tuesday, after inspecting ongoing streetlights repairs and maintenance.
Obuah didn’t mention the name of the foreign national, but said the contractor was popular, adding that would be prosecuted.
He accused the contractor of complicity in vandalising the streetlights to enable him to get the contract, adding that FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, had ordered the agency to provide Abuja with lit.
Obua said Abuja streetlights are divided into 21 lots, with 18 lots inspected so far vandalised and undergoing intervention work.
He said there was an impression that those vandalising the lights were scavengers and miscreants until the discovery that high-level contractors were involved.
Obuah said, “The minister of FCT has given us matching orders to make sure that Abuja is lightened up, and as a matter of fact, I embark on the spot assessment with my team to make sure things work well.”
