A former Special Assistant on Aviation Matters to Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, Captain Shehu Iyal, is dead.
A family source in Zaria confirmed that the veteran aviation expert passed away on Thursday after suffering from a protracted illness.
He late aviation expert has been laid to rest in Zaria according to Islamic rites.
A prominent figure in Nigeria’s aviation industry, Captain Iyal was the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Afri-Air.
He was a 1977 graduate of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), and an alumnus of the Nigeria College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria.
Captain Iyal was born in Zaria and played a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s aviation policies.
He was Chairman of the Presidential Implementation and Monitoring Committee for the development of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and also chaired the Presidential Committee on the Improvement of Airport Security and Drug-Related Issues.
Also, he served as a board member of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) and chaired its Aviation Committee, here he made far reaching contributions to the planning and coordination of airlifts during Hajj operations.
