Hajiya Sutura Shagari, the last surviving wife of late President Shehu Shagari, is dead.
She died on Monday at the age of 89 after a protracted illness.
The head of late Shagari’s family, Capt Bala Shagari, confirmed the death in a statement issued in Sokoto on Monday.
The statement reads “INNALILLAHI WA INNAILAIHI RAJIUN
“With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Hajiya Sutura Shehu Shagari, the last surviving wife of the former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari, GCFR, Turakin Sokoto.
“Hajiya Sutura passed away today at approximately 3:00 PM at the age of 89 after prolonged illness.
“She was an embodiment of grace, humility, and quiet strength, a devoted mother, grandmother,and matriarch who lived a life defined by dignity and compassion.
“Her loss is deeply felt by theShagari family, her loved ones.
Further details and funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course. May her gentle soul rest in eternal peace.
