A former Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mohamed Sani Sidi, has officially defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The high-profile defection was announced during a grand reception in Kaduna attended by Governor Uba Sani, Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajuddeen, and other top APC stakeholders. Thousands of Sidi’s supporters were also on hand to witness the political declaration.

Governor Uba Sani, while welcoming the former PDP chieftain, described the occasion as “one of the happiest days” for the APC in the state. He lauded Sani Sidi’s influence and political pedigree, saying his decision to join the APC was a landmark moment.

“Whether we like it or not, Sani Sidi— as we fondly call him— is a major political figure in our state. He has paid his dues and contributed immensely to the growth and development of Kaduna,” Governor Sani said.

He emphasized that Sidi’s defection was motivated by selfless service rather than personal ambition. “He is a fulfilled man. For him, politics is about people, about service, and about building our state and country,” the governor added.

Also speaking, Speaker Abbas Tajuddeen commended the APC’s growing inclusivity under Governor Sani’s leadership, noting that Sidi’s defection reflects the party’s rising national appeal.

In his defection speech, Sani Sidi said his decision was based on a shared vision of unity, development, and progress. “With a deep sense of humility, gratitude, and conviction, I officially announce my defection to the APC—a party I believe offers a brighter future for Kaduna State and Nigeria,” he declared.

He praised Governor Sani for his achievements in infrastructure, education, youth empowerment, and security, adding that these initiatives have rekindled hope among citizens. He also applauded Speaker Abbas Tajuddeen for his effective representation and legislative leadership.

Sidi, a former Kaduna State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, recalled his public service career and reaffirmed his commitment to community development. “My mission has always been to uplift lives and empower people. Joining the APC gives us a broader platform to achieve this,” he said.

He revealed that following extensive consultations with political associates across all 23 local government areas, he and his supporters resolved to align with the APC’s vision. “We are not just crossing over; we are bringing experience, capacity, and a commitment to serve,” he said.

Sidi further announced the defection of key PDP stakeholders, including two former state chairmen, a former state secretary, and a former member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly.

Pledging full loyalty to the APC, Sani Sidi vowed to work with party leaders to build a peaceful, united, and prosperous Kaduna State.
