A former Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Nuhu Aliyu, is dead.
He died in Kaduna after a brief illness, a family member told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE.
He was born in June 1941 in Kontagora, Niger state.
The deceased was a three term senator.
He was elected to the Senate for the first term in 1999, and re-elected in 2003 and 2007 to represent Niger North Senatorial District.
He was chairman Senate Committee on Police Affairs from 1999 to 2003.
During his second term in the Senate, he was chairman Senate Committee on Security and Intelligence.
Before his retirement from the Nigeria Police Force, the lawmaker was the DIG in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department.
He was married with six children.
He was a member of the Nigerian Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) Kuru, Plateau State.
He was a recipient of the Police Medal Award.
