A former Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi, is dead.
He was 76.
A family source said he died in his Abuja home in the early hours of Sunday after a brief illness.
“Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi passed on to glory a few minutes ago, early Sunday morning,” a family source said.
The late Admiral Ogohi was Chief of Defence Staff between 1999 and 2003.
He was the first Naval officer to reach four-star rank in the Nigerian military, including being the first Chief of Defence Staff from Navy.
The late chief of Defence Staff is an indigene of Okura-Lafia in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Admiral Ogohi who was born on November 14, 1948, was enlisted into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna in 1967 as member of the Course 4.
He passed out in 1970 and in the next year, headed for the Miodshipman course in the United Kingdom and technical course India in 1972, under water Warfare Course in Nidia.
In 1976, Ogohi attended the United States Naval War College course in 1980 and in 1992.
He held command posts which include Commanding officer Eken NNN France in 1982, Commander NNS Anansa in 1985 and Director Administrator in Nigeria Defence Academy in 1986 to 1987.
The late CDS was Commanding Directing Staff in the National War College and Deputy Commandant Armed Forces Command Staff College, Jaji in 1995.
In May 1999, he was appointed Chief of Defence Staff, a post he held till he retired in 2003.
