The Sokoto State Police Command on Thursday paraded an ex-army officer, Austin Anthony, and one other person over alleged car theft.
Anthony was arrested with a stolen vehicle along Birnin Kebbi road on December 5.
The former army lieutenant officer is said to be a serial car thief who had been terrorising the people of the state for years.
Spokesperson for the command, ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, said Anthony was arrested in connection to car theft and impersonation.
Rufa’i said the prime suspect had been using military uniform to carried out his nefarious act.
“The suspect was on bail after being arraigned over a similar offence in August, this year.
“He was however, rearrested at apolce check points along Sokoto-Birnin Kebbi road on the 5th of this month with another stolen vehicle,” ASP Rufa’i added.
The police spokesman added that, in the course of investigation the suspect confessed to the crime and additional two vehicles were recovered and one other Suspect arrested.
Other items recovered from the suspect, include a complete military uniform with a rank of Major, military batches and car sticker; master keys and keys of different types of vehicles.
In an interview with newsmen, Anthony said he was a lieutenant in the army before his dismissal over the disappearance of a Boko Haram member under his watch.
He confessed to have been into this illegal business since his dismissal some years back.
