Bauchi State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 general elections, Saddique Baba Abubakar, has quit active politics.
Abubakar disclosed this on Saturday, attributing his action to personal reasons, saying it was difficult and he apologised to his supporters.
The former Chief of Air Staff said despite quitting partisan politics, he would continue to contribute through his Marshal Care Foundation to the development of health and education in his State, among others.
He thanked his followers and prayed for continued peace and progress in Bauchi State and the country.
Abubakar said, “I sincerely apologise to all my supporters and well-wishers over this difficult decision, and I wish everyone the very best.”
Posters linking him to a possible 2027 governorship bid under the Action Democratic Party (ADP) were sighted in different parts of Bauchi metropolis some weeks ago.
He said although he was stepping away from partisan politics, he would continue contributing to the development of Bauchi State, particularly in health and education, through his Marshal Care Foundation.
Abubakar who joined politics in 2021 after retiring from the Nigerian Air Force,
emerged as a major opposition candidate in the 2023 governorship election in Bauchi State but lost to Governor Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
