Politicians in Abuja would not be allowed to impose candidates in All Progressives Congress (APC) for elective positions again, President Muhammadu Buhari has warned.
He made the declaration on Saturday in Daura, Katsina State, after registering as member of the APC.
Buhari said this step was taken to ensure that the party was returned to the people at the grassroots, adding that “no more crowning from Abuja downward. Let the people know this and appreciate it that they are in charge of their constituencies and the party.’’
The President said the elite failed to reflect on the effort his administration made to bring the country out of the woods, adding that on the onset of his government, funds were provided to pay salaries, “but the Nigerian elite are not interested in rating the competence, they are interested in harassing us, even with all the efforts we are making.”
