The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has announced the suspension of his plan to observe this year’s Sallah Durbar festivities, citing credible intelligence reports of plans to disrupt the process.
The Emir made this known in a special broadcast delivered from the palace, the Emir said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of lives and maintain the relative tranquillity enjoyed in the state.
“We have credible reports that some youths in the Zage and Kofar Wambai areas have been mobilised by unpatriotic politicians to attack us,” the Emir said.
“As a precautionary measure, we have decided to suspend the Sallah Durbar. The peace and stability of Kano must not be compromised.”
He directed all district, ward, and village heads to remain in their respective domains and to comply strictly with the directive in order to prevent any unforeseen incidents.
It can be recalled that earlier on Wednesday, the Kano State Joint Security Command imposed a total ban on all Sallah-related activities, including the traditional Durbar procession, horse riding (Kilisa), car racing, and any large public gathering.
