The late mother of the Emir of Kano, Mai Babban Dakin Kano, Hajiya Maryam Ado Bayero, would be buried on Monday.
The deceased, a princess from Ilorin emirate, was the eldest surviving widow of the late Emir Ado Bayero.
Hajiya Maryam is the mother of Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, and Emir of Bichi, Nasiru Ado Bayero.
The Kano Emirate Council, in a statement on Sunday, signed by Madakin Kano, Yusuf N. Ibrahim Chigari, said the funeral prayers for the deceased would be held at Kofar Kudu, the Kano emir’s palace, by 11am on Monday.
The deceased would be subsequently interred at the Hubbaren Gidan Sarkin Kano, the statement said.
The mother of the two emirs died on Saturday after a protracted illness in a private hospital in Cairo, Egypt.
She is survived by children and many grandchildren.
A palace source told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that the late Mai Babban Dakin Kano had carved a niche for herself as a pious and kind hearted woman despite her royal ancestry.
“She would be fondly remembered as a daughter of an emir, wife of an emir, and mother of two emirs,” the palace source said.
