The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has turbanned a former Minister of Finance Mansur Muhtar as Sarkin Bai Kano, and Bashir Mahe Bashir Wali as Walin Kano.
Mr Wali is now the seventh Walin Kano who succeeded his father, Mahe Bashir Wali, who is still alive but recently resigned his position due to old age and health condition.
Dr Muhtar, Vice President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), is now the ninth Sarkin Bai.
His father, before his death, was the longest-serving member of the Kano Emirate Council, since the establishment of the emirate in the 19th century.
He served for 63 years as district head, councillor and kingmaker before he died at the age of 95.
