Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has said that the bank paid eligible exporters over N20 billion rebates in the second quarter of implementing the RT200 FX programme for exports worth $600 million.
He disclosed this during a press briefing after the Monetary Policy Committee meeting in Lagos.
The RT200 FX programme is an initiative of the CBN which aims to raise $200 billion in forex earnings from non-oil proceeds over the next three to five years. The programme is mainly anchored on the Non-Oil Export Proceeds Repatriation Rebate Scheme.
The programme was announced in February, after a meeting with the Bankers’ Committee.
According to him,as at June this year, the apex bank had received inflow of over $2.9 billion.
He said exporters got rebate of N3.6 billion in the first quarter.
Emefiele said it was delightful that a lot of people had been doing export in Nigeria as a result of the incentive that the CBN was providing and paying promptly.
