At least four commissioners have resigned from Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’ cabinet on Sunday hours after the governor’s directive urging appointees seeking elective offices to quit.
The state Education Commissioner, Sunusi Saidu Kiru, is the latest senior appointee to quit.
Earlier in the day, three other commissioners had resigned. They are Murtala Sule Garo (Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs), Musa Iliyasu Kwankwaso (Rural Development) and Nura Dankadai (Budget Planning).
Also, Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Monitoring and Evaluation , Farouq Sule Garo, had resigned.
Governor Ganduje had earlier directed his political appointees wishing to contest in 2023 general elections to resign on or before April 18, in line with the Electoral Act.
The appointees said they resigned to enable them contest elections into various offices.
