The House of Representatives has passed the Electoral Act Amendment Bill for second reading on Wednesday, February 7.
The Bill is titled “A Bill for an Act to amend the Electoral Act, 2022 and for Related Matters”
Rep Francis Waive (Delta, PDP) sponsored the bill which proposes that the general elections be conducted on the same day to save money and time for the country as well as prevent bandwagon effect.
Waive, who represents Ughelli North/South/Udu Federal Constituency, lamented the shortcomings of the Electoral Act 2022.
He said the nation’s democracy would benefit from a change to the law that would allow “for the electronic transmission of results would help the nation’s democracy.”
The lawmaker called for the examination of the voter registration every 10 years.
He said: “A review of the voter registers every 10 years will be a good starting point.”
