Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, on Wednesday sued the Kaduna State House of Assembly over claims that N432 billion was misappropriated during his eight-year administration, leaving the state with huge debt liabilities.
The former governor filed a fundamental rights suit at the Federal High Court in Kaduna against the state House of Assembly.
The suit, filed by the ex-governor’s lawyer Abdulhakeem Mustapha, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), challenged the report of the Kaduna Assembly Committee which indicted el-Rufai for alleged corruption.
Recall that the ad hoc committee set up by the Kaduna State House of Assembly to investigate all finances, loans and contracts awarded under Nasir El-Rufai submitted its report in which it indicted the ex-governor and some of his appointees.
The former governor had through his media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, in a reaction to the findings of the investigation committee, dismissed the findings as false and scandalous.
In the suit, el-Rufai asked the court to declare the report unconstitutional, null and void for violating his right to a fair hearing.
