The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, Neda Imasuen, who investigated Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, is facing recall by his constituents of Edo South.
The constituents and the Human Rights Community, on Friday, said they were recalling Imasuen because they had lost confidence in him.
Representatives of five of the seven local governments in the senatorial district disclosed this at a press briefing in Benin, saying they deserve credible, accountable and transparent leadership.
The representatives of the local governments include Kola Edokpayi (Oredo), Caesar Garrick (Ikpoba-Okha), Aghatise Raphael (Ovia South West), Ogbu David (Uhunwode), Okorie Kingsley (Ovia North East), and Hanson Orako (Egor).
They also accused him of failure, corruption, abuse of office and betrayal of public trust.
The constituents were also asking that Imasuen be prosecuted for alleged disbarment by the New York State Supreme Court in 2010.
They said “given the international nature of these allegations, INTERPOL’s cooperation is necessary to ensure a thorough, Independent and global investigation.”
The group alleged that Imasuen who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions, has no constituency projects in his senatorial district, adding that he has distanced himself from the people.
They have therefore given a 14-day notice to the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Nigerian Senate and anti-graft agencies to process their petition.
Reacting, Imasuen has dismissed the accusations, declaring that the individuals moving against him had recently been invited to Kogi State.
He said, “They are doing a hatchet job because they are being paid from Kogi. I don’t see why someone is being paid to throw stones at his father’s house,” Imasuen stated.
Imasuen was at the centre of the controversy surrounding the sexual harassment petition filed by suspended Kogi State Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, against Godswill Akpabio, the Senate president.
