The Department of State Services (DSS) says persons and groups exploiting some fault lines with the intent of causing ethno-religious crisis in the country should desist forthwith or face the full wraths of the law.
The service said this in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunanya on Wednesday in Abuja.
The DSS had earlier issued an alert on January 11 issued on plans by some elements working with external forces to incite religious violence in some states, including Sokoto, Kano, Kaduna, Plateau, Rivers, Oyo, Lagos and those in the South East.
The statement said the latest developments on the alert indicated desperate efforts by these groups to subvert public order, as they resort to inciting, unguarded and divisive statements, acts and to pit citizens against one another in order to apparently inflame the embers of tribal and religious discords.
It said the plan was to cause inter-religious conflicts and use their foot soldiers to attack some worship centres, religious leaders, personalities as well as key and vulnerable points.
