The Nigerian Bar Association, Dutse branch, has called for urgent justice in the case of a DSS officer, Ifeanyi Onyewuenyi, who kidnapped, raped and forced 16-year-old Walida Abdullahi to convert to Christianity and marry him.
Walida’s family two years ago had declared her missing and conducting searches since she was 16.
The recent revelation of her whereabouts and the alleged crimes committed against her has elicited widespread outrage, as the NBA, Dutse branch, is demanding urgent justice and accountability.
The state NBA spokesperson A.B Umar, on Saturday, said the NBA Dutse branch was shocked and in disbelief at the allegations against Onyewuenyi, adding that the actions represent an “appalling level of barbarism and a crass display of impunity”.
The Association said Miss Abdullahi went missing at 16 and her whereabouts remained unknown for over two years despite her parents’ efforts to locate her, adding that this caused the death of her mother due to the trauma.
The statement said Onyewuenyi reached out to her father, Abdulhadi Ibrahim, in January 2026, saying Miss Abdullahi was in his custody for over two years, and directing the father to Abuja for their marriage.
Citing a court’s order for the suspect’s arrest and investigation, the NBA Dutse branch said it was aware of the reported arrest of Onyewuenyi by the DSS and demand full compliance with the court order.
Umar said “we demand a swift, transparent, thorough, and impartial investigation to ascertain the culpability of the suspect and any other persons who may be complicit in this egregious case.”
The association pledged that it would monitor developments in the case closely and work to ensure justice is served to Miss Abdullahi and her family.
The association said the alleged crimes include abduction, unlawful detention, rape of a minor, abuse of office and forced conversion and marriage.
“The victim was reportedly held against her will for over two years and gave birth to a child as a result of the alleged rape,” he said.
Umar said Onyewuenyi’s actions were “a gross abuse of his position as a DSS officer,” and emphasised that the NBA demands accountability.
