The Department of State Services (DSS) has questioned some Kano state government officials over allegations of cyberbullying and defamation petition raised by former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
In a post on his social media handle, the Director General, Media and Publicity to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, has confirmed that they were invited by the DSS and detained for about four hours before being granted bail on self-recognizance.
He stated that those affected include Mr Dawakin Tofa himself, Ibrahim Adam, Special Adviser to the Governor on Information; Salisu Yahaya Hotoro, APC Youth Leader in Kano State; and Nuhu Dambazau, Senior Special Reporter at the Government House.
Earlier, it was reported that a a petition was filed to the DSS by Kwankwaso under the Kwankwasiyya Movement, accusing them of orchestrating online harassment and defamatory campaigns against him and members of his political camp.
In the petition the former governor alleged that the officials were involved in coordinated social media activities aimed at damaging his reputation.
Observers say the decision to release the officials shortly after interrogation suggests that investigations are still ongoing, with no immediate conclusions reached.
The incident comes amid heightened political exchanges online between supporters of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and those aligned with the Kano State Government.
