The Department of State Service (DSS) has arrested a former House of Representatives member, Aliyu Gebi, for allegedly supplying false intelligence to foreign embassies in the country.
The fake intelligence reportedly triggered diplomatic concerns within the security circles.
Mr Gebi, who is said to be a security consultant, was granted bail but remains under investigation.
Premium Times reports that Gebi, a member of the 7th House of Representatives, was arrested on Friday, April 3, 2026.
Gebi’s alleged report is reported to have caused ripples in diplomatic community and disrupted international travel plans.
The suspect is reported to be popular within Nigeria’s security architecture, has been accused of passing inaccurate and misleading intelligence reports to foreign missions.
A security source revealed that the report caused significant alarm among international stakeholders.
“Lufthansa cancelled flights scheduled to take off to Nigeria,” the source said, adding that “British Airways nearly did the same.”
Another source said the same intelligence reported a recent security advisory issued by the United States warning Americans about insecurity in some Nigerian states.
Gebi has been granted bail, but he is to be reporting to the DSS headquarters as investigations progress.
Security sources said “he has been going to the SSS office since he was granted bail. He is being investigated and will be charged in court.”
Gebi could not be reached for comment as his phone lines were inaccessible, and messages sent via SMS and WhatsApp were not delivered.
