The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested three Israelis for alleged link to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The three Israelis are Zionist activist Rudy Rochman, filmmaker Noam Leibman and French-Israeli journalist David Benaym.
The foreigners were arrested on July 9 at Ogidi village, Idemili North LGA of Anambra state.
There is no official statement from the DSS over the arrest.
The newspaper said the Israelis were arrested on suspicion that they had come in contact with Biafran separatists who have launched a campaign of terror recently killing security officials and destroying federal institutions.
Between January and April this year alone, IPOB had murdered over 60 security personnel in 55 attacks on security formations in Southeast and South-south of Nigeria.
The federal government recently accused some western nations of justifying IPOB’s violent acts under the guise of the group pursuit of self-determination.
The Israelis were in Nigeria to film a documentary that seeks to explore Jewish communities in African countries such as Kenya, Madagascar, Uganda, and Nigeria, according to the newspaper.
The families of the three Israelis were also quoted in a statement as saying local political elements twisted the gifting of a Torah scroll to a local community as constituting support for separatist political ambitions.
IPOB social media were awash with gifts such as the Jewish holy book, the Torah scroll and framed Shiviti made in Jerusalem, among other gifts brought to them by the Israelis.
One of the men entered Nigeria on a French passport, and the other two on American passports.
