Nigerians living in border communities don’t see smuggling as an illegal business, hence they aid it through the use of donkeys and motorcycles, Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Hameed Ali, has said.
He said this Tuesday when he appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Customs and Excise.
Ali also said Nigerians living in border communities were actively involved in smuggling arms and ammunition into the country.
“We are ready to do all within our powers to ensure that we block all the arms coming into this country,” he said.
Ali said scanners would soon be deployed in land borders “as part of the measures to quickly know the contents of containers.”
