Kano State State House of Assembly has been dragged to court to stop the potential screening of Murtala Garo for the position of deputy governor.
In a letter dated April 15, 2026, addressed to the Speaker, Jibrin Falgore, lawyers from Suleiman Mohammed & Co. disclosed that they had filed a lawsuit on behalf of Kuliyya Muhammad Salihu and two others.
The lawyers explained that the suit challenges the planned screening of Murtala Garo for appointment as Deputy Governor as the case is currently before the High Court of Kano State.
According to them, the case, marked K/360/2026, is already being heard in court, making the matter sub judice. They argued that it would be inappropriate for the Assembly to take any action on the issue until the case is fully determined.
They further warned lawmakers to suspend all activities related to the matter, noting that any step taken while the case is ongoing could interfere with the judicial process.
A copy of the letter was also sent to the Clerk of the Assembly, and it has been confirmed that the legislature received the correspondence.
The development comes amid rising political tension over the Deputy Governor’s seat in Kano, with reports indicating ongoing consultations and lobbying among various stakeholders.
The new lawsuit has added a fresh dimension to the already unfolding political crisis in the state.
