All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders loyal to former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, are presently meeting in Kaduna over the move by Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle to defect to the party.
Matawalle would officially defect from his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday.
His media aide, Yusuf Idris confirmed that all arrangements have been concluded by top APC stakeholders to officially receive him in Gusau.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that Abdulaziz Yari who is one of the key stakeholders of the party in Zamfara State was not comfortable with the move.
Yari’s main grouse, source close to the camp said, is that his camp was not consulted while the scheme by Matawalle to return to APC which he earlier dumped was on.
There were speculations in the media when the news of Matawalle’s planned defection was confirmed by a presidential aide on Sunday that Yari’s camp may head to court to stop the move on Monday.
However, as the time of filing this report, the camp has not approached the court over the matter.
“As we speak, the Yari’s camp is still in a meeting to decide the way forward,” the source said.
He said stakeholders close to Matawalle have been persuading the Yari camp to give room for negotiation and consensus in form of sharing of political positions.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that Matawalle had recently dissolved the state executive council preparatory to his planned defection.
Analysts said slots in the cabinet would be among the carrots the governor may dangle to smoothen his paths after defection.
The source disclosed that Matawalle’s camp has already reached out to Yari and a meeting already scheduled for Monday night.
“Matawalle’s people are sending in a proposal which will be deliberated between them and Yari’s camp in a meeting tonight in Kaduna,” the source disclosed.
However, the Director General Media Public Enlightenment and Communications to Governor Matawalle, Yusuf Idris said he was not aware of the proposed meeting involving his boss.
