The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to sack the Cross River State Governor, Senator Ben Ayade and his deputy, Prof. Ivara Ejemot Esuas from office.
The party said Ayade and Ejemot have lost the right to continue in office as governor and deputy governor respectively having left the platform that brought them to power
The party averred that the All Progressives Congress (APC), which the duo defected to did not win the March 9, 2019 Governorship election in Cross River State.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was also joined in the suit as co-defendant.
Ayade, who was elected in the platform of the PDP during the 2015 and 2019 governorship elections, defected to APC along with his deputy in May 2021.
The party argued that the mandate given by the electorate in Cross River State to the PDP cannot be transferred to APC or any other political party, while urging the court to give it the nod to nominate replacements for the two positions.
