Peter Obi’s running mate in the 2023 elections Datti Baba-Ahmed, says he is leaving the platform of the Labour Party (LP), to join the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) where his elder brother Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed is the National Chairman.
Datti told Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, on Tuesday, that the crisis ridden party was the reason he was leaving the LP. He said the LP is bogged down with internal crises and disagreements, adding that this has drifted the party from its original ideals.
He said “I am leaving the Labour Party tomorrow [Wednesday]. There is more to it. When there was real peace in the Labour Party, was when they posted back.
“They redeployed someone with a specific purpose, and because of the antecedent of the individual, to make life difficult, particularly for me. What the Labour Party stood for then is no longer what it is.”
According to him, he is leaving the LP by midnight, adding that he will join the PRP, adding that the PRP is the new destination. PRP is the one with a history. It’s about 75 years old.”
Like the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and even the new African Democratic Alliance (ADC), the LP has known no peace as it has been experiencing internal divisions which led to the emergence of former Minister of Finance, Mrs. Nenadi Usman as interim leader and subsequently as national Chairman.
The LP on Tuesday elected Nenadi Usman as its substantive national chairperson
