Boko Haram militants have destroyed one of the towers supplying electricity to Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, throwing the city into darkness.
Reports say the city has been without electricity from the public power supply since the past one week.
It was learnt that the blackout has grounded many businesses, and those operating on generators offer skeletal services.
Many residents of the city condemned the action of the insurgents, but also blamed the authority for not restoring power to the city since the past one week when the incident happened.
The spokesperson of Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) in charge of Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Taraba states, Kingsley Nkemneme, said he could not comment because the problem has to do with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
