The Sultanate Council Sokoto has conferred the Danfodiyo awards for Exemplary Leadership on the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero.
Bayero was conferred with the Sultan Muhammad Bello Award for Good Governance.
The council also honoured the late Islamic scholar, Abubakar Mahmud Gumi, who died 30 years ago.
Other personalities that were honoured include, Sheikh Sheriff Ibrahim Saleh, the former deputy Governor of Lagos State, Alhaja Lateefat and Madawakin Gwandu, Idris Koko who bagged Knowledge and Scholarship; Social Development and Public Service awards respectively.
The Abuja based Imam, Fo’ad Adeyemi bagged Sultan Sa’ad Award on Peace building.
The ceremony was one of the activities lined up to celebrate Sheikh Usmanu Danfodiyo week.
Speaking, Sultan Sa’ad noted that, the recipients had had contributed immensely to the development of their communities and the nation.
He also tasked Muslims to get educated because it was the only way to fight oppressors.
On his part, Sheikh Ahmad Mahmud Gummi who received the award in behalf of his late father, advised the Sultan to call for a meeting of Islamic leaders in the country in order to iron out differences.
The Governor of Sokoto state, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mainasara Ahmed thanked the sultanate for organizing the ceremony.
