The Kaduna House of Assembly has on Tuesday declared the seat of the former Speaker of the House, Aminu Abdullahi Shagali (APC, Sabon Gari), vacant.
The assembly also extended the suspension of Yusuf Liman (APC, Makera), Isah Hazo (APC, Basawa), Nuhu Goro Shadalafiya (APC, Kagarko) and Salisu Isa (APC, Magajin Gari) by another 12 months.
Shagali resigned ‘on personal grounds’ on February 25, 2020.
He was not at the house when the decision was announced by the Deputy Speaker Isaac Auta Zankhai, during Tuesday plenary.
The assembly said the decision was taken because the former speaker had been absent from the assembly activities for more than a year without giving any reason.
The Chairman House Committee on Information, Tanimu Musa Kachia, told journalists shortly that “the house decided to declare his (Shagali) seat vacant because since last year he stopped attending activities of the house without any reason and the house unanimously agreed that his seat be declared vacant.”
On the other suspended lawmakers, Tanimu said “the house discovered that despite being on suspension for months, they were still trying to create misunderstanding in the house among members. We want them to know that we are working for the state, not political party.”
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE gathered that the lawmakers are yet to receive the resolution of the house, as stated by one of the suspended lawmakers who didn’t want to be mentioned.
“I will only comment when I see the house resolution. This is because I only saw the news on social media that we have been suspended. So, by the time I study it I will comment publicly,” he said.
Shagali can’t be reached for comment as his mobile phone was switched off.
It could be recalled that the house has been in a leadership crisis since February 25, 2020 when Shagali resigned amidst a plot to impeach him which led to the emergence of the new Speaker Yusuf Zailani (APC, Igabi).
