Boko Haram doctored a video it released on Friday where it claimed responsibility for the crash of the Nigerian Air Force Alpha jet on combat mission in Borno, a Sweden-base analyst, Hugo Kaaman, has said.
The alpha jet went missing on Wednesday, and the Air Force had on Thursday said the aircraft “might have crashed.”
Boko Haram on Friday through a video claimed responsibility for the crash, but the Air force dismissed the claim.
It said: “most parts of the Boko Haram’s video were deliberately doctored to give the false impression that the aircraft was shot down.”
Kaaman, an independent open-source researcher, with focus on the use of “Suicide Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices by armed non-state actors”, gave credence to the Air Force claim.
He said the video was from a 2012 incident involving a Syrian Air Force helicopter.
