The Kano State Government has dismissed allegations by Buba Galadima accusing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Kano State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) of suppressing opposition voices, describing the claims as false and politically motivated.
In a statement issued ress briefing issued and signed by the Kano state Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the state said, the allegations were “reckless, malicious and deliberately contrived” to undermine public confidence in the state’s democratic institutions.
Galadima had, in a recent interview, alleged that the governor and security agencies were intimidating dissenting voices in the state.
However, the government maintained that at no time has the administration directed any security agency to harass or silence political opponents.
According to the statement, the timing of the allegations is not coincidental, noting that similar claims emerged following the governor’s political realignment and intensified after Galadima’s removal as Chairman of the Board of Kano State Polytechnic.
The government said the decision to relieve him of the position was based strictly on administrative considerations relating to performance and competence. The administration stressed that while it respects and upholds freedom of expression as guaranteed by the Constitution, such freedom does not extend to defamation, incitement, or the deliberate spread of misinformation capable of disturbing public peace.
It further clarified that security agencies operating in Kano act within the confines of the law and based on credible complaints and established procedures, not political directives. Any suggestion that the state government manipulates federal security institutions, the statement added, is misleading.
Reaffirming its commitment to inclusivity and accountability, the government said opposition figures continue to operate freely in the state, civic engagement remains active, and the media functions without restriction.
