Nigerian Telecommunications Commission (NCC) says the country is witnessing the rise in cyber crimes as a result of COVID-19 pandemic.
NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman, Prof. Umar Danbatta who disclosed this at the inauguration of NCC Centre for Computer Security Incident Response in Abuja on Thursday, said the commission observed increasing growth in cyber incidents and criminal activities since outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said the facility was established to address incidents of cybercrimes, protect telecoms infrastructure and encourage increased participation in the nation’s digital economy space.
Dambatta said the commission recognised that with the borderless nature and pervasiveness of the incidents, there was the need for concerted efforts to protect Internet users and critical national information infrastructure to ensure their resilience.
