The Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19 has put six states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, on red alert.
The states include Lagos, Oyo, Rivers, Kaduna, Kano, and Plateau.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Chairman, Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday also warned other states to increase their level of preparedness and continue to enforce all COVID-19 protocols.
The measure came amid fears of the third wave of the pandemic following the confirmation of the Delta variant of the coronavirus in the country.
Mustapha also cautioned Nigerians to be careful as they celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.
He also said the Federal Government would sustain “current restrictive measures against travellers arriving from India, Brazil, Turkey and South Africa.”
